Earth Day

This Is The Time - Art Fazil

Too many cars, too much smoke
too much smoke is choking up my throat
so many forest losing trees
there'll be golf courses by the end of the century
so much warning on global warming
there's a hole in the sky that we are ignoring

this is the time to talk about the earth
talk about the sky
talk about the birds,
the trees and the little child

so many hungry so many starved
there's so much food why don't we ever have enough
too much rhetoric nothing is done
they keep on bickering as war and famine rages on
so many mothers so many babies
they are the victims of this third world disease

this is the time to talk about the earth
talk about the sky
talk about the birds
the trees and the little child

Why?

too much sex too much violence
it's a dangerous time for the young and the innocent
so many children being abused
all for money to keep the perverted amused
so many dead many infected
is this Sodom Gomorrah revisited?

this is the time to talk about the earth
talk about the sky
talk about the birds
the trees and the little child

Fine, I may be a little too late to acknowledge the commemoration of Earth Day but at least this is something right? Hah. The thing about the lyric above is that it is taken from an album which dated back since the early 90s. I couldn't recall if there were even much hype about all these environmental awareness back then. Either nothing much were done or I was too young to actually understand.

But all in all, it goes to show that the environmental problems we are facing now were pretty much prevalent even since 18 years ago. It could be much longer actually. Somehow, campaigns to save the earth are made more extensive now possibly because the earth is on the verge of a major breakdown already. Things have gotten worse obviously.

Well, I just came back from my jog awhile ago. And so I was thinking, if everybody stop making use of workout machines which make use of electricity, and take their workout outdoors instead, that could possibly grant us some 'green' points. So whaddya think? Ditch those treadmills for instance, and go for your runs at the stadium, parks, reservoirs etc etc. Embrace nature ayy. Will do some good. Haha.

Oh and if you are at the public toilet, just make use of a single piece of tissue paper to dry up your hands instead of making use of the hand dryer. Now, I am personally gonna need some time to get used to that coz I always make use of the hand dryers.

Not forgetting, I should really try to go to bed with the lights off. I have not been doing that for ages. Coz I've been spooked before.

As it seems, my idea of saving the earth revolves mostly around cutting the usage of electricity (though there are a lot of other measures for us to earn those 'green' points). Because I am guilty of using them excessively and unnecessarily. So there.
